Nate is a PhD student in the Civil Engineering Department. His past work includes an economic analysis of integrating reservoir operations and downstream floodplain activities (Thesis ). Nate models reservoir system operations (water supply, flood control, hydropower, ecosystem releases) to better understand trade-offs between competing uses of water. He's currently interested in (i) optimizing watershed level water uses, (ii) design of integrated reservoir and levee systems, and (iii) the changing hydrology of the Sierra Nevada.
