Project Description

Historically, the landscape of Suisun Marsh was dominated by tidal wetlands, with vast expanses of marsh plain that would flood during high tides. Since then, there has been rapid development of managed wetlands for waterfowl hunting. The Suisun Marsh Habitat Management, Preservation, and Restoration Plan aims to convert a portion of managed wetlands to tidal wetlands as well as enhance 40k + acres of managed wetlands. By gaining a more holistic understanding of this system, decisions regarding tidal restoration can be more well-informed.

This research explores:

-The distribution and abundance of fishes in a restored tidal marsh, a managed wetland, and adjacent tidal waterways

-How managed wetlands influence subtidal waterways

-Effective water management and the development of restoration designs that will benefit aquatic species.
