Environmental services are the intangibles utilities which nature gives to humans as CO2 capture, erosion control, groundwater recharge, and others. Payment for Hydrological Environmental Services (PSAH) in Mexico dates back to 2003 and it was originally financed by a portion of the fees collected by water utilities. In 2004,"Program for the Development of Environmental Services Markets of Carbon Capture and Derivatives of Biodiversity to encourage the establishment and improvement of agroforestry systems" (PSA-CABSA) was created and in 2006 World Bank provided it technical and financial assistance.
